What is this place?
We are an open and eclectic creative space for all ages and abilities that servces the diverse creative needs of our community. Anyone is welcome to drop-in during our open hours to use our supplies, materials and equipment at no cost (or just to hang out and talk to us). We have opportunities to learn and share skills with others; and we collaborate with local service organizations to meet the needs of their clients and groups. Talk to us to schedule a facilitated creative workshop with our instructors, to inquire about collaborative programs for your organization, school or business, or to rent our space for private events or workshops. Make-It is also coordinates a variety of programs and is the home of RAD Springfield, a community bike shop that refurbishes bicycles to give back to the community.
How can I get involved?
We are always interested in speaking to people who want to get involved, as makers, drop in visitors, volunteers, donors, instructors, and sometimes interns. To learn more, stop by during our open hours to check out our space, or email us. We also welcome the general public to learn new skills by attending workshops. We also have some great programs that give creatives and makers additional opportunities and time in our space.
What support is available?
No matter where you are in your creative or entrepreneurial journey, we want to talk to you! We are also committed to making what we do financially accessible. Besides being free to access during our open hours, we offer sliding scale registration fees for our workshops—pay what you can, from FREE, HALF OFF, GENERAL ADMISSION or SUPPORTER.
We are also proud to participate in the Card to Culture program, a collaboration between Mass Cultural Council and the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program and the Massachusetts Health Connector, that promotes free or steeply discounted admission to arts, humanities and science organizations throughout Massachusetts. See the complete list of participating organizations offering EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare discounts.
What equipment is available?
We have tools and supplies in 7 studio areas, including tech, graphic design, photography, wood, bike repair, sewing, and arts and crafts. We also have a white board, easels, a projector, speakers, video camera, tripod and extension cords for virtual presentations. Some tables and chairs are available for large gatherings. For more details, see our equipment list.
