What is a makerspace?
A makerspace is a shared space where people with interest and skills in a mix of disciplines can come together to create, make and share knowledge and resources. Our Vision is defined this way: Make-It Springfield supports the creative needs of a diverse Springfield community. Its dynamic, eclectic learning environment invites people of any background or skill level to explore and create, while promoting inclusion and collaboration in all forms of culture, art, and technology.
How can I get involved?
We are always interested in speaking to people who want to get involved, as makers, drop in visitors, volunteers, instructors, and sometimes interns. To learn more, stop by during our open hours to check out our space, or email us at info@makeitspringfield.org. We also welcome the general public to learn new skills by attending workshops. Memberships will be available soon, but anyone can drop in during open hours to use our supplies and some tools.
We also have some great programs that give creatives and makers additional opportunities and time in our space.
What support is available?
No matter where you are in your creative or entrepreneurial journey, we want to talk to you! We are also committed to making what we do financially accessible. If needed, anyone can text us for a discount code to a workshop or other activity, and anyone can drop in to use our art supplies and some tools during open hours.
We are also proud to participate in the Card to Culture program, a collaboration between Mass Cultural Council and the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program and the Massachusetts Health Connector, that promotes free or steeply discounted admission to arts, humanities and science organizations throughout Massachusetts. See the complete list of participating organizations offering EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare discounts.
For more information, or to receive a discount code for an activity, email us at info@makeitspringfield.org, or call or text us at (413) 455-0663.
