To give adventurous Creators and Makers the chance to focus on building a creative practice and encourage forward thinking, Make-It Springfield is pleased to add additional support with a $3,000 stipend—divided over a 10-month period. This award is intended to support a creative vision or voice at any level of artistic development. The Fellow will have unlimited access to the equipment and the artistically vibrant Makerspace in downtown Springfield. In addition, there will be special opportunities to present work-in-progress in a public lecture, display, reading, or performance.
A complete application consists of the following:
- A proposal in the body of an email or in an attached voice recording. The proposal should describe the applicant’s potential project—what you will create or be working on during the Fellowship. Example: “I will create a coloring book with futuristic depictions of tomboys to help children re-envision their understandings of gender.”
- Two to four work samples—videos, writing, photographs, or links (YouTube, Google Drive, Dropbox, Website, or other online source). If you would like to provide an explanation for any of the work samples, feel free to attach a description in a PDF document.
- A short written, video or voice recorded biography—to help us understand you, your context, your approach, and your inspiration.
All applications must be submitted electronically by the end of the business day on December 31st, 2021.
Applications must be emailed to: fellowship@makeitspringfield.org.
Eligibility
The Fellowship is open to Creatives and Makers 16 years of age and older. Candidates must be resident of the Greater Springfield area or Hampden County.
Review Process
The Make-It Springfield Fellow will be selected based on the authentic quality of work samples and the potential of the proposed project to be accessible and interesting to a diverse audience. Evidence—such as: a recommendation, number of years doing creative work, or special recognition of the applicant’s desire to pursue a creative life—is recommended.
