THIS GROUP HAS CURRENTLY REACHED CAPACITY. PLEASE USE THE FORM LINK BELOW TO JOIN THE WAITLIST. WE WILL CONTACT YOU AS SPACE FREES UP.
BIPOC (Black Indigenous and people of color) have historically had our imagination, creativity, and physical labor exploited in this country and many others.
We need to be given the space, time and support to access rest. This is why we are creating The BIPOC Rest Group at Make-It Springfield.
We live in a culture that values profit over people and requires us to work without much or any time to rest. In addition to that, many of us use work as a way to cope with being too tired or weighed down by stress or trauma. Accessing rest is nearly impossible for many people.
So what do we do?
The BIPOC Rest group will meet once weekly for 4 weeks in the month of March and read Tricia Hersey’s book Rest Is Resistance. Tricia Hersey actively works to disrupt grind culture – opening permission for people to rest in a culture built on exploitation. The BIPOC Rest Group will offer the Springfield community the opportunity to learn about and practice rest.
Inspired by Hersey’s nap installations that she offers through the Nap Ministry, we will have tea and be guided through a meditative rest practice led by Jamila Jackson. In the second half of the hour, we will read and discuss the book Rest is Resistance and how it relates to us personally.
The group will run for 4 weeks on Wednesdays from 6-7pm March 6th – March 27th, 2024 at Make-It Springfield (286 Bridge Street). We will be providing books for all who register.
