Hello Everyone! My name is Jamila Jackson. I work here at Make-It Springfield and I am excited to be facilitating a social media conversation on the creative process.
When I was a little girl, my mom always encouraged and affirmed my creativity whether I was creating origami cranes, making soup, dancing, painting, making a skit or writing a poem. She built my confidence in myself as an artist and a maker by supporting me emotionally as I moved through my creative process. This is something that I am deeply grateful for because it shaped my trust in my creativity and laid the foundation for me to use my creative expression to create the life that I desire for myself and my community.
As I grew up and began to embark on living my life as a creative, I encountered and still encounter SO many challenges. To move through these challenges, I have sought out more and more support.
Through the support I receive, my understanding of myself as a person and an artist has developed. My skill and passion for supporting other’s creativity has also blossomed.
The creative process is a powerful phenomenon that connects us to our own self-expression. It is something that bridges our inner and outer world and connects us to our community. It is something we all deserve to feel empowered within.
I will be posting to this series once a week and sometimes more. I look forward to not only sharing little pieces of my stories, but also the stories of the Make-It Community as we continue to unravel and explore the emotional components of an empowered creative process.
